Close: closes the program
About: General information about the program.
Below that box is another box that displays the name, price and description of the iffs that you click on from the box above. You may change any of the information in those boxes by highlighting the text or numbers then typing in your own replacement text or numbers. (ex: change the price from 1500 to 10)
To the right of these boxes is a screen with editing and sorting options.
Main Object Sort:
Nbhd Sort - This is a buy catalog sort that coincides with the optional room sort menu of the buy catalog that pops up when you click the buy catalog button twice in-game.
The 5 boxes to the right of this are the away- lot buy menu options. Choose where in the each location’s buy menu you want that item to show . You may add locations in which an item is available this way.
Above this area are the boxes to tick if you want to save individual items to FARs or subfolders. To do this you must select the item, tick the appropriate box, then click the save button at the bottom of the screen.
Function Sorts:
These are the options for your buy catalog. Choose where in your buy catalog you would like the object to show. This helps in organizing your custom content in a way that makes it easier to find. (ex: all items that hang on walls in decorative/ paintings.)
Build Sorts:
This shows if an item is listed in the build catalog. These do not have to be categorized in Main Sorts as Maxis has designated items in these folders to be available in all locations. If you have too many items in your build category you may go back to the Function Sorts box and move the object to the buy catalog by choosing where you want it to show up. This will automatically remove the build designation but also the all locations designation so you’ll need to choose those in the Main Sorts box.
Under this area are some small tick boxes.
Enabled: I’m not sure about this one, I think it lets you know if an object is available to the game or not. At any rate I’ve ticked it and never had anything bad happen so I do it every time before I load the iffs from a folder.
Keep Buying: Allows you to buy an item continuously without having to click on it in the buy catalog each time. (ex: dining chairs and fences)
Clear Thumbnails: It does just what it says. Do not use this if you have Unleashed or higher. Maxis screwed up and this option will cause your item’s thumb to not show in the buy catalog.
To the right are 2 boxes that display the Magic cookie number of the item and the Object ID (GUID). If you notice that the item has no magic cookie number I believe it’s possible to type one in by highlighting some or all of the zeros and replacing them with a number, then clicking the save button.
Display Objects in Subfolders: Tick this before you load your iffs to show objects in your selected folder that are already sorted to subfolders . ( ex: if you organize your downloads folder according to site or creator)
Read only Saves: Allows objects that were designated as read only to show in this program and be saved after editing.
Save Paths When Working With FAR Files: If you’re going to edit your FAR files in any way or create FAR files for your objects, you should tick this box.
TO SELECT A FOLDER:
When the program opens,
Click Object sort button
Click Browse iffs. A box will pop up for you to browse your game files and choose the folder you want to sort or edit from.
(The first time you use it you may have to set the path by choosing “The Sims” or you may be able to choose your Downloads folder right off the bat. I can’t remember if I had to set the path first or not.If you do it will then give you the option to choose a folder-choose Downloads)
All the iffs in that folder will display in the box in the upper left corner of the screen.
Object ID Check:
After you have selected and loaded your files to the Object Sort screen click the Object ID Check button.
A box will pop up telling you what it’s going to do and asking if you want to continue. This is just to let you know that it’s going to take awhile if you have lots of downloads so you can opt out if you don’t have time to do it now.
It will check your selected files against all Maxis files and custom content files in your game.
When it’s finished, count of all the iffs in your game, a list of GUID numbers and the location of your files will be available in the upper box on this screen. Duplicate objects and GUIDS will be listed in the lower box on the screen.
If you have default replacement items (ex: the roaches patch, some hacks, away lot controllers) in your game they will list as duplicates. IGNORE THESE! They’re fine where they are and won’t crash your game. They’re made to be the default that the game chooses first and instead of the Maxis version. The way to spot them is to look at the box labeled Object Far File Name. If there is an entry that lists one of the Maxis expansion packs or the Objects folder, it’s a default replacement object and does not need to be removed.
Duplicate objects as opposed to duplicate IDs; If you’ve accidentally put the exact same file into 2 different locations the program will remove one for you if you click on it’s name in the Object File Name box.
Duplicate GUIDs ; choose one of the conflicting objects to fix, then double click on it’s name in the Object File Name box. A small box will pop up that will list options.
Uncheck the "use magic cookie" box.
There will be a sequence of numbers at the bottom of the pop up window. Choose the option to check that number against the others in your game.
If it isn't found the center option will be available to you. That will assign the new unused GUID to the item or piece that was problematic.
If it is being used, check the box that says
use magic cookie and type a random 5 digit number in the space provided.
Check that number and choose the appropriate action. If it still conflicts the program will tell you and you’ll get the option to change the number again. In that case, you just change the magic cookie number until it doesn't. If it doesn’t conflict with anything click yes or ok.
